Akvaplan-niva’s marine research station, FISK, is located on Kvaløya, outside the city of Tromsø. The station is a flow-through facility designed for flexibility, offering R&D services and solutions tailored to client needs (tank size, temperature, water flow, light regime, etc.). We facilitate and conduct R&D projects ranging from small-scale laboratory trials to upscaled pre-commercial production:
• Approved experimental animal facility
• Aquaculture license for 139 marine species; 50 tonnes Maximum Allowed Biomass (MTB)
• Global G.A.P. certification for cod juvenile production
• Dedicated R&D areas designed for exposure trials
• Dedicated ecotoxicology department
• License for seaweed cultivation in the sea adjacent to the land-based facility
