A central research topic for Akvaplan-niva is how different human activities affect organisms and ecosystems

We carry out reserch projects in collaboration with environmental managers and actors from different industry sectors, including oil and gas, renewable energy/ocean wind, aquaculutre, and mining.

We study effects of long-distance transport of pollutants on Arctic ecosystems, andof local pollution sources in Norwegian fjords. Pollutants studied include organic and inorganic contaminants, metals, and (micro)plastics.
