Communicating research perspectives to international management

Communicating research perspectives to international management

On 08-09 June, Paul Renaud (Akvaplan-niva, Norway) and Liudmila Sergienko (Petrozavodsk State University, Russia) participated in a two day Steering Meeting of the Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Program (CBMP) Coastal Group. CBMP is a program under the Arctic Council's Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) working group. Sergienko is the Russian Federation's representative to CBMP-Coast and Renaud is a member of the Norwegian Expert Group. The workshop focused on developing a framework for planning biodiversity monitoring and reporting data across the pan-Arctic region.

This activity is also a pathway for communicating research findings and perspectives to international management bodies like CAFF. Sergienko and Renaud are partners in 'Arctic EcoSens' (a project co-financed by the Research Council of Norway and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research) and 'Euro-Arctic coastal wetlands conservation' (funded by the Kolarctic Cross-border Collaboration Program), which provide highly relevant data for international monitoring and management.
