Abstract
Vertical nitrate fluxes to sunlit surface waters have an important role in supporting primary production in the Arctic Ocean. This Review explores the contributions of various physical mixing mechanisms in supplying nitrate to the Arctic euphotic zone and compares them to the biological uptake rates.
