On December 3, the annual meeting of the Migratory Crossroads project was held at Akvaplan-niva main office in Tromsø. Project participants living in Tromsø joined in-person while external members (NIVA, NINA, UWA) joined online. The progress of model design and testing, field campaign and data processing therein, and communications and data management were presented at the meeting. Apart from this, presentations were given by one of the Master students and intern who successfully completed their research under the project. The progress of the digital game attached to the project was also presented.
The aim of Migratory Crossroads project is to understand the climate change impacts on behaviour and life-history of zooplankton – in particular, the key copepod Calanus finmarchicus in the Norwegian Sea. Since its inception almost 2 years ago, Migratory Crossroads largely focused on the development of a predictive model and its validation based on ‘present-day’ data. In its last year (2026), the project will run model simulations into the past (hindcast) and future (forecast) to investigate how C. finmarchicus ecology and evolution was impacted by anthropogenic climate change. We have planned exciting activities for the upcoming year, including scientific publications, data publications, conference proceedings, popular science articles and above all, the release of the digital game in the autumn. Stay tuned!
